The Classic Triumph TR6

The Classic Triumph TR6

The Triumph TR6 was built by the British Triumph Motor Company from 1968 until 1976. It was the best-selling model of the TR range when its production ended, a mantle which subsequently passed to the TR7.

Although Triumph produced a significant 91,850 TR6 cars, 83,480 of these were exported to the overseas market, with just 8,370 being sold in the UK.

The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission. An optional electrically switched overdrive operated on second, third, and fourth gears on the early models, and on third and fourth gears on the later models. Other features included semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-inch wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and in the boot, bucket seats, and full instrumentation. The car featured disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. A factory steel hardtop was optional which, due to its weight, required two people to remove or fit. The dashboard was walnut veneer. Other factory options included a rear anti-roll bar and a limited-slip differential.

Triumph TR6’s are much sought after in the UK today, with only around 3000 licensed models and 1300 SORN models registered with the DVLA.
